Lough Key Tri
The Lough Key Sprint Tri in Lough Key forest park is now open. It is set in the park near Boyle in Roscommon, with a lake swim, a 23K cycle around the lake, and a run through the forest.
A very nice tri, and the park has a campsite for those of you who might want to take the family with you.
I did this last year and we all had a ball. It is on the 7th September this year.

Adventure Racing Update
I have been keeping a close eye on the Turas and am glad to say that Midland AR are all in good spirits and enjoying themselves despite the awful weather and high seas. This is day three of the event and they will be spending the day trekking around the Beara peninsula with visibility expected to be quite poor so let’s hope their navigator is in top form. Looking forward to a good report from Patrick when it is all over.

Trilogy's future is bright
Ross Byrne (15 yrs old) completed his first Aquathon, first open water swim of 750m followed up by a 4km run in an excellent time of 36mins 30secs, placing him 41st in a field of 80 veteran triathletes. Ross, who had never worn a wetsuit before will only improve on this, as he committed the crime we all commit on our first (for others 10) open water swim. He followed some one else whose orienteering in the water wasn't the best. Congrats Ross. You'll be able to knock a few more minutes off next Wednesday when we sort out your transition!
And not to be out shone, Laura Ridgeway (16 yrs old) also made an amazing debut into the world of multisport. In a time of 37mins 15secs, Laura was placed 44th in this field. Laura has never swam in open water before so she also had the restriction of the 'wetsuit' to adjust to. She did extremely well. Unfortunately Laura will not be able to take part for the next 2 races as she will be on holidays but be warned fellow Trilogy members. The dedication that these athletes are showing will have us all on edge when they start competing in our Test Tri Series! Watch this space.

Lisbon - Gavins & Emmas Reports
We had a round up of personal highlights today on our way home and for many, watching the elite race was a biggie. Both Gavin and Emma, contenders for Beijing at the start of the race, battled hard against lost water bottles and mishaps on the course.
It looks like Gavin did well to beat of the competition he knew about, but then didn't factor in a rising star who might now take his place to Beijing. See Gavins Blog here.
Emma Davis's take on the race is also available - see here. She was dogged by bad luck with her bike, but at the end of the race appears to be a little more comforatble than Gavin for Beijing.
PS there is a great race report about the Age-Group race and Team Trilogy to come from Trish, and a small mountain of photos from everyone to be published. Make sure you keep one eye on this site over the next few days for more.

We hope to do a conference call Thursday night at 10pm to try and get the Trilogy chat set up for everyone. It is from an 0818 number and this is 8cent from you landline. You will have to be at your PC and have broadband. We will send out a text Wednesday to confirm the exact time and the number and extension you will have to dial. The call will take about 20 minutes.

Sorry you must have missed the race briefing yesterday it was a “training session” . Now why would I want to catch you I always give you a 20 minute head start to give you a chance.

I just want to say a big thank you to everyone involved on sat morning but especially to all the marshals and time keepers. It was great to be able to sit down today and look over the split times and try and work out where I can shave off a second or two for the next day out. I think there may be a few more people attending Willie’s transition training sessions. Look out Willie - I think that’s Karl just behind you.
'DO' and 'THOUGH'
thank you so much for your concern, but I have to point out that it is unwarranted. Even THOUGH I changed my training wheels to my racing wheels for, that is right - a race, most people in the club are aware that these are NOT new wheels. I actually bought them when I bought my bike (it is lovely, isn't it?) AND it was not their first outing either. They graced the roads around the Heath in our last Duathlon of 2007.
However Mick 'DO' keep trying to catch me. I always enjoy a challenge!!!

The Triathlete
No mountainous muscles or intimidating features, the triathlete stores their true power deep within. To look for evidence of such power, one only needs to look deep into the eyes of these warriors of the elements just before and after the beginning of competition.
Then, nothing else matters. They have no past, there is no future and life means nothing except the distance that needs to be travelled.
All that is regarded as living is suddenly redefined into a simplified existence within each arm stroke, each breath of air, and each step. But even then the true triathlete, regardless of their level finds the euphoria of the Triathlon not only by its finish, but from the Zen like state that comes, that gives them the superhuman ability to break any and all limitations - that keep men
simply men and women simply women. They are super athletes proving their worth only to themselves for the satisfaction to have said
“I did it”…….again…

do you seriously think for one second that I will let you know when I'm going to Chad? Why would I take away the "Is Sinead going to catch me sneaky training?" element? Just remember people, whether you are lacing your runners, fastening your helmet strap or packing your goggles, the minute you step out your door to start on your sneaky training session, there is a GREAT possiblity that YOU WILL be caught. Admit it. You're training preparation wouldn't be complete without this thought. Trilogy wouldn't be the same if there was no name and shame for those of you who sneaky train campaign.

240 mile cycle
There's a charity cycle coming up on the 4th to 6th April. The idea is to cycle 240 miles from Maynooth to Galway. It has been running a few years now and seems to be very well organised. Group cycle with food stops and support provided along the way.

Bobby Behan Training Weekend
The weekend started nice and early with a 6.15 meet and greet at Portarlington pool foyer. After some stretching and group introductions we were in the pool. Warm ups and drills ensued. Each participant was taken out during the drill sessions and videoed, to analysis their technique later on that day. The session lasted an hour and half,at this stage we were wide eyed and awake. Those of group that were staying with Bobby headed back to he's house for breakfast. But off we went,Kevin and myself to Johnny B's for some carbo-loading, i.e a full Irish breakfast.Little did we know that we would be caught with our mouths wide open tucking into a tasty sausage as Bobby arrived into Johnny B's to pick up some milk!
Video analysis was next on the agenda, which proved to be very informative and shocking. This was the first time I had seen myself swim and former thoughts of olympic swimmer where vanquished from my mind. Short stroke, narrow entry, wrong body alignment where all on display. However I have now been pointed in the right direction by Bobby. Following our two hour session of video analysis is was time for lunch.
Following lunch, we headed out on the bikes and hooked up with Joe who had been on the bike for some three-four hours at this stage. A little over an hour into the cycle my cassette went on the bike and I could go no where.The group continued on and Bobby offered me a push home. Some slow pushing!!! Some small hills and an hour and half later we where back. Thanks Bobby!
More food, shower and rest, recovered me from my long bicycle ride and got me in the mood for a run. The sign said on the entrance to the track, track flooded but this didn't dissuade any of us fearless triathletes. What a great way to end the day, with a floodlight run.
The second day eclipsed the first day which I didn't imagine possible. More focused drills for each individual to improve specific bad habits, finished the bike ride, personal bike washing service, running with former olympic athletes. More food in Johnny B's, meeting the entire Behan clan around Killenard. Great fun and craic.
All in all it was great. I came away feeling I had achieved alot. Specific drills to improve my swimming technique or just get a technique! Correct sizing for my bike, proper planning for the year ahead and most of all a sense of enjoyment and experience that I thought could only be achieved further afield.

Mountain Biking
Is there anyone interested in going mountain biking in Ballinastoe Co Wicklow on Sat morning? The circuit is 15km with a lot of single track which is quite technical but great fun. I would hope to go around twice which should take about 3hrs. Leaving portlaoise at 9:30- if your interested give me a ring 087 6814154.

SNEAKY TRAINING
Well guys I am delighted to be able to tell you that sneaky training has been brought to new and exciting heights by myself and Patrick. Thanks to our loving partners who sent us to Bobby Behan’s training camp for the weekend. Over the course of the weekend we got individual coaching on all aspects of our swim, cycle and run from a man whose knowledge of, love for, and dedication to the sport has to be experienced. Patrick is going to write up a more detailed report so watch this space.

it is only sneaky training if you get caught. NO ONE caught us. We actually volunteered all relevant information so nice try. The next time you are in the gym doing your own sneaky training, you might catch some one then.
